…And a Half!

Today, a little someone has her half birthday!  And a big someone since we’re born the same day.

You can see here that though we have a picky 18 month old, she lets it be known if she wants what you’re having.  She still eats a lot of the same things she always has, and is very fickle…what she ate yesterday may not be enjoyed today!  So for school days, she gets the tried and true foods that she’ll eat.  Then we play nights and weekends.

This was the first time she decided to try pizza…crazy kiddo!  Just a few bites.  She loves fruit though, so I’ll take it!

She walks, has so much to say (wish I could understand it all) and mimics words all the time.  I guess I’ll have to keep my words in check 😉  And now, she loves her helmet!  Along with some toys – she never has really been attached to them before the past month or so!

I need to get a picture of her joining in on my P90X3 and May legs workouts!  She just squats, but she’s great at it!   I needed a picture of her this morning too…it’s wear green for reptiles day at school, and I made her a shirt with our reptile on it!  Hopefully she’s still in it when I pick her up!

Sitting Still

I’m sitting still now after a busy busy day.  I packed the early part of today with activities we wanted to do…there was just too much going on today!  It worked out pretty well and we had a good time.

First (after packing 3 bags for the day!) was our Moms in Training group run (donate here!).   We did 50 minutes today and it felt good!  Most of my Saturday long runs are now “the longest run since I found out I was pregnant” as I ran 4 miles the day I found out and then it was two on a good day!  I did a 5K in there too, but I can’t remember if I ran the whole thing (I did come in with a better time than expected).  I had some quad pain during Friday’s run, so I was a little worried.  It did hurt a bit a little after, but was fine during.

After that, we went to the gym where I could shower while my sidekick played.  It was better located than home and I was able to be quick without a buddy.  I try to bring her to the gym child care pretty often to get her more used to it.  So this was a nice short visit where she had a good time.  After that, we swung by her school quickly.

Then was the big fun…an hour in traffic!  Just kidding.  But we did spend that long!  I started breaking lunch out of the bag while we were stopped.  We went to an Easter egg hunt where she held all the eggs she could.  Kids are cute.  It’s so fun watching them play.

Can you guess that nap time was next?  All this and we were home about 3.  I needed a nap just as much as she did!  But it was a great day, mostly outdoors, enjoying the nicest day in months!

Kale Sweet Potato Mash

I made this recipe from Clean Eating magazine the other day.  I like it a lot, but the baby LOVES it.  I put it in refillable pouches (I have these) and she sucks it down.  A great way to get in some extra greens!  The servings are adult servings though.  I think it would be 3 servings for each of us (so 3 adult, 3 13 month old servings) if we wanted to have it together.  I’ll probably have 2 since she’s loving it so much.  Food has been a bit of a struggle lately with most taking a trip to the floor, so if she likes it and it’s healthy, I’ll definitely take less!

Kale Sweet Potato Mash
serves 4 adults

Ingredients –
-2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
-8oz chopped kale (about 7 cups)
-1/4 cup almond milk
-1TBSP raw honey
-1/4tsp sea salt

Instructions –
-Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
-Add potatoes to boiling water.  Cover, reduce heat to medium high and cook for 10 min
-Add kale, cover and cook for 10 more min, until potatoes and kale are soft.  Drain and return to pot.
-Add milk, honey and salt.  Either roughly mash with a wooden spoon or, if you’re putting it in pouches, use an immersion blender to smooth it out (I didn’t fully puree it…there are still decent chunks but it has been soft enough to get out of the pouch so far).

Easy Eating

How was your weekend?  We had a good one here!  I have to work today, but I have a 4 day weekend next week.  I’ll take it!

I wanted to go through and write out a day of food.  Not my perfect day, not super healthy, not anything special…not even a typical day.  What is it? Easy.  All of the food is quick, minimal cooking time, and reasonably healthy.  It’s a decent day.  Please remember, I eat a lot of calories right now to support breastfeeding.  This may be too much food for you, or it may be too little.   So pick and choose, use it for ideas, and I hope you find something that helps you out!

5am – Wake up – Chocolate Shakeology with frozen berries and water
8:30am – Quick Cooking Steel Cut Oats (I get these that take about 5 minutes total) with almond butter and banana
A little later – Clif Z Bar (I buy the Chocolate Crispy)
11:30am – Chicken sausage (I have two of these), Butternut Squash soup (I buy the Pacific brand…not making it!) with coconut oil, nutritional yeast and cinnamon
A little later – grapes
2:30pm – P90X bar (I buy the variety box and alternate through all of them).  Larabars are also a good option, but I find that the P90X bars keep me satisfied longer.
A little later – Chocolate PB2 mixed with water
5:30/6pm – Gardenburger, Steamed spinach (in the microwave…I use this) with olive oil and Garlic Gold nuggets

pm – Tofutti Marry Me bar

I wouldn’t usually eat all of this for one day.  Often, dinner is from the crockpot (still easy) but I wanted to throw in an even easier option there.  I will also make chili (crockpot again!) for lunches.   The “a little later” foods would typically be while I’m pumping during work and aren’t always, but I left them in as quick snacks in case they’re helpful.

Are you out and about?  I have posted before about eating at Chipotle and sometimes I’ll also do Starbucks for their egg white sandwich.

Catching Up

Hi, I’m still here!  I feel like I do this post too often.  I apologize.  I want to do better but I know that isn’t meaningful.

One thing of note is that I try not to post fluff.  I don’t want to come here and say things just to say things!  Sometimes, I just don’t have much going on.  But today I do, so here you go!

We had a 3-day weekend!  Daycare was closed yesterday, my husband had off because that’s his schedule, and I took off.  Three days was lovely!  Even if I have a cranky teether all the time.

Friday was my last day of T25, so I took the weekend off of concentrated exercise.  We walked, did yoga and walked some more, but I didn’t put in a video, change into workout clothes (though my usual clothes are pretty close!) or pull out weights or a map.

I took my T25 after photos, but need to take measurements (yesterday) today, so I’ll post after that.  I will put up its own post, but I am happy with how it went and look forward to doing the program again….possibly with gamma too once I am in losing mode.

We had a little playdate that was fun.  I don’t get to see her play with the babies at daycare much…once I’m there, it’s time to hang with me!  It was a good time and we went home with some great new (to us) stuff!  Thank you again!

We started planning somebody’s birthday party too.  One month to go!   I can’t believe it has gone so fast.  It has been a crazy fun ride these 11 months!

I also got my next few challenge/accountability groups planned out.  I’m excited to be doing a Shakeology challenge next.  I haven’t done one since the beginning of the year.  I love sharing Shakeology with others because it makes me feel great.  If you’d like more info about that, comment or email me!

Some updates

Here are some other things I have been up to that haven’t made it to the blog yet…

I participated in an Insanity flash mob.  It was fun, but we got broken up in 8 minutes 😦  And since I was doing Insanity, I got one picture!  My sister and I ended up jogging in NYC to keep up the fitness portion of the day, so that was fun.  I was wearing the wrong sneakers for it and haven’t been doing any running, so it was slow and short.  But a good time.

She also ate banana pancakes.  We all had pancakes this morning – banana protein pancakes for adults, bananas dipped in pancake batter for the baby.  Enjoyed by all!

I learned how to back carry in the ergobaby…without assistance of a couch or husband!  I did use a mirror, so I may not be doing this alone out of the house just yet.  Practice is important when it comes to carriers!  I love my ergo.  I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a baby carrier.  The front carry is so easy and comfortable.  Hip carry is a little more complicated, but not bad.  Back carry is more logistical than difficult…you have to get the baby on your back, but then it’s nothing.  And I can feed her discretely while she’s in it.  If you need help with yours, let me know!

Send sleep!

Sorry to not post for so long!  Not much here to say other than talking about sleep regressions (baby) and lack of sleep (mommy).  I have been cutting my to do list daily to try to get to sleep earlier.  So homemade food for baby, but piecing things together for me.  Some food shopping, but no Trader Joes.  Post Office cut.  Some messages I should send wait.  It goes on.

I hear (from the world of internet moms) that a sleep regression is normal right now.  We have a baby who pulls herself up and can sit back down but forgets that part a lot.  Hopefully as she builds confidence, she can stand up and look around…and then sit back down and sleep.  Right now she gets stuck up and it upsets her.  I think there’s also some teething happening…still no teeth yet!

It’s amazing how quickly I got used to sleeping all night (or one wake up).  We did this from about 4-7 months old, so I’ve been getting decent sleep for a little over 2 months.  And it was lovely.  But we’ll get through this and I get extra baby time at night for now.  Things will slide, but this is how life goes!
