Guess who actually won a Trader Joe’s weekly raffle? Me!
If you have no clue what I’m talking about, our store (and many others) gives you a raffle ticket each time you come in and use reusable bags. They say they draw weekly, but I had never heard of anyone winning until they called me.
I won a $25 gift card and of course it was gone by the time I left the store. But still an exciting win!
I didn’t work out today. I slept in after being awake for about 3 hours in the middle of the night. I thought the pug might be sick so I set up the baby monitor to watch him from bed instead of sleeping the rest of the night on the couch. I’m sure I got more sleep than I would have staying downstairs. He seems fine today.
I have been up at 5 both weekend days, but all for good, fun things. Yesterday, my husband ran his second half marathon, so I woke up extra early to get in a workout. I also walked while he was running up to a place I could catch him as he ran past and then back to the start/finish line. A lot of the rest of Saturday was spent relaxing and eating with some errands built in. I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to, but it was still a good day.
Today’s big event was taking our pug for a photoshoot! We found 1000 Pugs, where a photographer is spending a year photographing (go figure) 1000 pugs. Artoo is #1 pug to us, but 1 of 1000 is good too. It was fun and we can’t wait to see the pictures she took! Here’s Artoo in Washington Square Park after his posing was done…
Then, since it’s Sunday we watched football! We drove to meet a friend and watched most of the daytime games. It was a good time and my jersey still fits. A month to go/grow! My husband’s jersey is a size bigger than mine, so I’ll switch with him if necessary but I think I might be able to make it through in my own. It would be great to be done buying maternity clothes after my last order of some colder weather wear.
Now to get ready for a busy week!
Workout yesterday – Prenatal Vinyasa from yogadownload.com, walked over 2 miles
Workout today – Yoga Booty Ballet Baby on the Way
We went to Babies R Us (BRU) to buy a bunch of our remaining registry items (especially the furniture and baby monitor) last week. They offer a 15% completion code (I think it’s 10% if you start your registry online) that arrived for us two days before I was 34 weeks. The code is good for one day, says it’s good online (but wouldn’t work at the store or at home) and comes on a post card that could easily get thrown out.
We needed four types of things, which led to four transactions and us being in the store for over an hour:
- available in store
- ordered in store (non special order furniture)
- special ordered in store (special order furniture)
- not available in store, available online
We wanted to use the completion code on all of it (obviously, who doesn’t love a discount) and we also opened a store credit card for an additional 10%. The big issues were things that were not on our registry (our conversion kit for the crib which was nowhere online and couldn’t be added in store due to low stock) and the online items (which the card opening 10% should not have been used for but because they had to call about the completion code, they got us a 25% off code instead of 15% for the online order). The special orders went well. As long as we used the new card for some of it, the 10% could be applied even on the amount we were using gift cards for. And she had no problem with the completion code working on the conversion kit though two prior people (employee and manager) said the system wouldn’t let us use it). I had gone through the gift cards we were also using and written the amounts on the front with a sharpie which she found very helpful. The online order was the biggest hassle. I think that in order to use it, your registry needs to be synced somehow to your purchasing account online. Otherwise it thinks you’re ordering from someone else’s registry and doesn’t accept the completion code. This wasn’t mentioned when we started the registry, and I used the same email address for the registry and for my regular account. So if you want to use your completion code online, I recommend going in to the store and having them do it or expecting to call their customer service.
The available items in store were pretty easy. But the coupon says that they should take it away from you (weird because it is a one day code, not one use) after the purchase.
Hope that helps someone!
Workout today – Elliptical, lifted weights
Workout today – yoga, walk (with a conference call)
As promised, these are the questions that we wanted to have answered from the day care places we saw (in no particular order):
- teacher/child ratio
- teacher turnover
- sick/vacation policy
- teacher certifications
- weather policy
- what we will need to bring
- typical day
- definition of sick and when they can return
- meds – who gives and their policy
- can we leave a carrier/stroller there
- toddler discipline
- can we drop in to check in or feed
I had great friends help me with the list of questions as I couldn’t have thought of half of these without the help of experienced parents. I think we’ve made a decision, but I realized when writing out this list that I forgot to ask about the sick/vacation policy at the last place.
I planned to do two workouts today, but I’m not making it to yoga tonight. I’ve been up since 3am and I’m not feeling so well.
Workout today – 20 minute elliptical, lifted weights
Some days workouts just don’t work out. Today is one of those days.
I didn’t workout yesterday either, so it was a bad day to miss. I was trying to catch up on sleep this weekend, so I relaxed instead of popping out of bed to exercise. Then last night, I was up from 12:45 am – about 5 am. At 4:30 I decided to reset my alarm and skip working out in the morning.
Then I worked. Until about 30 minutes ago. My work computer is actually still doing work for me, but I don’t need to be there. I could workout now, but I want to go to bed early so I’d rather relax. In between work and now, I folded laundry, clipped coupons (and filed them) and got some paperwork together to look at. I’m sitting on the exercise ball instead of the couch, so I have that. And tomorrow I plan to workout in the morning and night. I can’t make it to yoga on Saturday, so I want to go tomorrow night and I still plan to do this morning’s workout tomorrow morning. Assuming I sleep!
We visited a daycare center today (as my “lunch”). It was definitely an option. I’m going to post a list of the questions we went in with this week/weekend. This was the second place we visited, and there were differences but we would feel comfortable with either. So now it’s decision making time. We shouldn’t need it until March, but I’d like to have a plan early.
Just for fun (and because I think he’s adorable), this is how my dogs were when I woke up yesterday. The pug looks super comfortable. doesn’t he? He’s looking at me like “take the picture already so I can go back to bed”.
